Study and Research at SEFREC

 

Welcome to SEFREC — South Ehime Fisheries Research Center

 

If you are interested in studying or conducting research at SEFREC, here's how to get started. Our center offers opportunities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and provides a unique setting for hands-on learning and advanced research in fisheries science.

Undergraduate Programs

Students wishing to study at SEFREC should apply to one of the following programs at Ehime University:

 

Faculty of Social Co-Creation – Department of Industrial Innovation
Choose the Fisheries Science Course (after course selection in your 2nd year). From the 3rd year, you will transfer from the Matsuyama Campus to SEFREC in Ainan Town. For your final-year thesis, you will select a topic from one of the three research divisions: Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or Social Sciences.

Faculty of Agriculture – Department of Bioresources and Environmental Sciences
Choose the Environmental Conservation Science Course under Prof. Motohiro Takagi. You will transfer to SEFREC during the latter half of your 3rd year.

Graduate Programs

If you wish to pursue a Master's or PhD while conducting research at SEFREC:

 

Graduate School of Agriculture – Course in Aquatic Production Science (Master's Program)
Apply to the Aquatic Production Science Course for research in advanced aquaculture, physiology, and marine resource development.

Apply to one of the laboratories affiliated with SEFREC: Prof. Rie Goto, Assoc. Prof. Taiju Saito, or Prof. Motohiro Takagi.

Research Divisions at SEFREC

 

Life Sciences Division
Focuses on fish reproduction, aquaculture technology, germ cell engineering, sex differentiation, surrogate production, and data science.
Lead faculty: Prof. Rie Goto / Assoc. Prof. Taiju Saito

 

Environmental Sciences Division
Conducts research on red tides, environmental DNA, fish diseases, and sustainable aquaculture ecosystems.
Lead faculty: Prof. Motohiro Takagi / Assoc. Prof. Sonoko Shimizu / Asst. Prof. Hisato Takeuchi

 

Social Sciences Division
Examines regional fisheries, community education, fishery branding, and policy studies.
Lead faculty: Prof. Norihito Takenouchi
